It was already night. He'd not been in this place very long, but he wasn't settling in as well as he himself hoped. Nate found himself in the cafeteria, for the scheduled snack. Something else he figured would be monitored with his past. He sighed quietly, not allowed his hoodie this time. His ugly arms were out and visible, Nate found himself pressing his arms to his sides as best as he could. To keep them out of sight of anyone else, not that he could be sure they'd judge him. No that he could say that they wouldn't judge him either. Just because this was a place for people like him, didn't mean he wouldn't be judged for the sins of his youth. Nate accepted whatever they handed him, not particularly hungry as he stared at the ground.
Making his way to a table in the corner that was unoccupied. He was new here, not many people paid him any mind. It seemed like a few already knew people here, so he didn't want to impose. Nate poked at the item of food they' given him with a spoon. Sighing again as he set the spoon down next to the yogurt container. Tucking and crossing his arms over his torso as he set his head down on the table. Closing his eyes momentarily, trying to tune out the muffled noise of the cafeteria at this time. All he wanted was to go back to his room and go to sleep, preferably not wake up but that's unlikely. He really couldn't help but feel a little irritated, uncomfortable. Nate hated being monitored almost as much as he hated being pitied. Neither of those would ever sit well with him.

Another day in the same cafeteria, with the same food, and the same boring trays. Luckily, it was the time of year when a ton of new people were coming into White Springs and Ebonie could finally see some new faces around the place. Who is going to be my first acquaintance of the day? She thought as she made her way around the room. After she retrieved what food she wanted she noticed him. A boy sitting in the corner table all by himself. This was the exact chance the girl had been looking for.
She noticed him set his head down on the table and hoped he was feeling well. She walked over briskly and set her tray down across from him, "Hello! " she said happily. Her voice a tad higher pitched then she had meant it to be. Hello! Nate jumped having faded out from his knowledge of people. Sitting up and opening his eyes, rather snapping them open, though he settled down again at his ridiculous behavior. Maybe it wasn't ridiculous, but whatever. Nate sighed in mild relief that it was just another teen, and not an orderly or other staff. No name tag after all. His right arm came up as he bent his elbow, resting his head on his forearm and hand at the back of his neck. Leaning his elbow on the table while he glanced at the girl sitting across from him. Curious, why did she sit next to him, or by him for that matter? His company couldn't seem all that desirable.
"Hello." The statement had been simple originally. He didn't need to respond and just spill out his life story to her. After all, she'd only said hello, so it was normal to respond. Not that he felt overly social at the moment anyway. He caught one of the orderlies eyeing him disapprovingly having not touched the yogurt he'd accepted. It wasn't wasteful, he'd eat it, just not at that very moment. Maybe he'd eat it. Okay so maybe it was wasteful. Nate found himself staring at it, searching the carton for a nutrition label. This was dairy after all, and diary was awfully fattening. Nate almost made a grimace at the thought but kept his face pretty blank for the time being.

Ebonie took note of his rather stoic and simple tone that came from his hello, quite opposite of her bubbly one. She began forcing food into her mouth and made her way to speaking in between bites, making sure not to chew with her mouth full. "My name is Ebonie!" She said brightly. Happy to be able to introduce herself to someone, it was one of her favorite things to do. She noticed that he was playing around with his yogurt. She wondered why he didn't eat it. Her yogurt was on her tray being saved for last because she liked it so much. She figured she'd throw the guy a bone, something to think about. " " My yogurt is Cherry flavored, but I like peach too if you wanted to switch?" She offered kindly, keeping her smile broad and bright as always. My name's Ebonie! The same bright cheery tone jostled him as he glanced at her again. Was she really this happy and upbeat? What the bloody hell was she doing here then? Nate was wary of such a bubbly personality, usually he was bubbly yes. But not that bubbly. She went on to ask about switching yogurts with him. To be honest, he didn't even want his, and he still tried to keep from grimacing at the offer. He glanced away from her eventually, staring at the table instead. The empty spoon sitting beside his yogurt, it seemed far too symbolic for him. "I'm Nate." Again he replied rather shortly, not in the meaning that he was upset, just that he didn't want to elaborate.
It wasn't like he enjoyed he ancient name Nathaniel. Like, who in the right mind would go about calling themselves that? Or maybe it was him that wasn't in the right mind, so maybe calling himself as he wished was different. It didn't even matter. Sometimes he wondered what his name used to be, in the country he came from. "You can just have it if you want it. I'm not hungry." Nate took his arm away from his head for a brief moment, the ugly scars protruding out of his skin actually made him grimace as he slid the yogurt towards Ebonie. Nate quickly retracted his hand rather quickly to it's former position. "Do you spell your name with an 'ie' or a 'y'?" Something that probably wouldn't have occurred to many other people. Ebony, in terms of the colour wouldn't make much sense. He'd not ever really met someone named Ebonie though. "Or is it short for something?.. I mean .. my full name is Nathaniel.. so..." Nate frowned slightly as he spoke his own name. Only his father used his full name, and it really irked him.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I’m Nate. The boy replied. It was always nice to have a name to put to a face. Ebonie burned his name into her mind as to make sure that she never would forget it. She felt she was starting to like his short, to-the-point way of speaking. It didn’t make any room for confusion or awkwardness. "Nate, that’s a nice name," she said with a smile. Nothing too extravagant on her part, especially for Ebonie. She said it in a more ‘matter-of-fact’ tone. As Nate slid the yogurt towards her she noticed the marks on his skin, but those weren’t extremely uncommon around here. She made sure to not stare as she watched him snap his hand back into place. “No, you have it,” she replied as she pushed it back over to him, “You haven’t eaten a single thing off that tray and this yogurt looks the most appetizing.” She smiled kindly. Then he asked her a question about how she spelled her name, which Ebonie found very odd. “It’s and ‘I.E. And nothing else, that’s the full thing.”” She responded. She knew her name was strange, but it didn’t occur to her that it was any sort of abnormal. She’d had it her whole life after all. She liked his full name, Nathaniel, but decided not to comment on it. Ebonie starting taking bites out of her own yogurt as she glanced at the orderlies keeping watch on the cafeteria. There were obviously here for the level threes, but it was all the same to Ebonie. "How long have you been here?"

No, you have it. You haven't touched anything on your tray. Nate shrugged slightly. Watching her push the yogurt back in his direction. He wasn't really hungry, if anything he just wanted to go back to his room now. Though he was staring at the table, he nodded his head slightly as she explained how she spelled her name. Nate's shoulders hunched a bit as he leaned down again to put his head closer to the table, glancing up at Ebonie without moving his head.
"I'm not hungry." It seemed to just be a statement, but it was more of an explanation to him. Nate returned his gaze to the table though, not caring to respond to what she thought of his name. It wasn't that he didn't care, but everyone had an opinion. Cool, so she liked his name. That was good for her, they were probably in the same boat. Nate found her name interesting, and maybe vice versa. His gaze traveled back up to her when she asked him how long he'd been here. Nate shrugged a bit again. A few days or so, couldn't be much longer.
"Just a few days. Long enough to have a set schedule I guess... You?" Nate leaned more into the arm he rested his head on, cocking his hip so hat it was easier for him to manage such a position. He yawned slightly, he really would just prefer to return to his dorm or whatever it was called and just go to sleep. Nate didn't feel like talking to anyone anyway. He wasn't very interesting, just the awkward kid who tried too hard to make others believe that he was happy.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I’m not hungry, he answered. Ebonie couldn’t help but feel a little offended about the fact that he wouldn’t keep the yogurt, and a little sad that he wouldn’t eat. She let a frown form on her lips and her energy level dropped by over 60%. She had been triggered, by the mere fact that he was worrying her. Her tone suddenly became monotone and her eyes drooped towards the table, rather than at Nates face, which was looking at her. "Whatever." She sighed. She suddenly wasn’t feeling hungry anymore either but she still ate, because she knew she had to. When he told her how long she had been there Ebonie just nodded. She also noticed him yawn. "Maybe you should get some sleep. You probably need rest anyway, especially since you don’t eat. Your body must be famished.” She cocked an eyebrow at him. Whatever. Nate's brow quirked slightly as he glanced up at her. It seemed that he'd offended her somehow, and it made him a bit curious. It wasn't like he was trying to offend her, but he'd kind of been drilled to talk about your current feeling. Sensations as well, and he just wasn't hungry. He'd eaten all three meals today, because he didn't want a snack, it was suddenly strange? Nate found himself watching her a bit more closely now. Her entire demeanor changed so quickly, it kind of scared him. He'd had a classmate like that before, and she was rather scary. Not to mention she could be quite rude, but he didn't want to jump the gun just yet. Or well, at all.
Then the comment she made next actually made him a bit angry. She didn't know him, and this display was hardly enough to pinpoint an old problem of his. Granted, Nate was thin, and told this frequently, even if he didn't believe it. Nate didn't try intentionally to starve his body of nutrients anymore. A frown tugged the corners of his lips downward almost immediately. His eyes lost any friendly demeanor that they held previously while conversing with her. He actually stood up from the table, resting both hands on the top of it. "I apologize then for offending you. But you know nothing about me besides my name. I'm not here for an eating disorder. I was brought down here for socialization, but that's a pretty moot point even with someone who's trying too hard." Granted that was a little harsh, but he was seriously angry.
Usually things didn't get to him so quickly, but if you said the right thing, or just assumed something like that so casually, it was an easy way to set him off. Nate pushed his body away from the table, grabbing the untouched yogurt and his spoon, walking swiftly to a garbage and dropping them in. Sure, it was wasteful, but he couldn't exactly just go up and hand it back to them. With that being said and done, he started to walk away, one of the orderlies moved to follow him, which he really half expected the girl to as well.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ebonie just sat there as he left. It's not like she hadn't offended people before. Her mood swings always got her into places where she would be saying things that got her into trouble. In her current mood though, she didn't really care. She stood up as well, taking her tray and food where it belonged and left the Cafeteria, walking right past Nate and the orderlies and headed for the lounge. She'd hoped someone would be there to help switch her mood back to normal. She took one last glance at Nate and tried to give an apologetic smile, unaware if it worked.
