plus, lounging in the lobby was fun, especially on the couches. gabe was kind of surprised at the influx of recent patients. he'd seen quite a few people check in over the past few weeks.
and the mental health rate is going up and up, commentated gabe to himself. he stopped to have a quick conversation with the receptionist. she really didn't get much love for doing her job. in fact, none of the doctors, orderlies or anyone else employed at white springs did. so gabe tried to be on their good side. never know when they might snap, he reasoned. cheerfully, he bid good-bye to the receptionist and crossed the lobby, down on a couch beside a blonde girl, reaching over to poke her. "why, hello there, ebonie," he said, grinning. "what's up?" agh this is bad and short sorry! |

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ebonie made her way to the lobby to do a bit of reading, and be ‘reading’ it was really that Ebonie was going to find people to mingle with. She just loved meeting new people and the lobby was a fairly good place to do it. Or just a good place to catch up with some old friends. She brought her book, Sense and Sensibility into the lobby and sat down on an empty couch.
Ebonie sometimes liked to play a little game. Seeing if anyone new would approach her rather than her making the approach. This occasionally got her into some awkward conversation which she didn’t mind. She opened her book and didn’t get too far into pretending to read it before she felt a poke on her arm. She looked up to see Gabe, one of her closest friends, sitting down next to her.
"Gabe!" She exclaimed happily. “I’m just enjoying some good old pretend to read while secretly people watching. Have you noticed how many new people have come in? Even just this week...” She knew Gabe paid close attention to this things like she did. They both liked to be aware of their surroundings at White Springs, and always shared there knowledge with each other. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- STATUS: Complete TAGGING: Nathaniel NOTE: -- MUSIC: -- LYRICS: demi lovato - two worlds collide CREDIT: itslikewhoa of CAUTION 2.0 for the code and the images

she gave a note on how so many people were arriving at white springs. gabe had been here for only a little while compared to some people - about a month and a half - so he'd gotten some time to notice everyone. and suddenly people were flooding into the center. "yeah, said gabe. he glanced to where a woman was checking a broody-looking girl in. "so, ebonie. i have a question. do you think it's the people that are getting crazier, or the doctors that are getting crazier?
it was always a question. doctors were crazy, no doubt about it, which was why gabe had quit this attention clinic or whatever he did for his adhd back in seventh grade. (and his meds, but that was snuck in with his breakfast, so there was no avoiding that.) seriously. gabe wanted to be a doctor. a hundred dollars an hour just to talk to people and diagnose them with what they wanted to be diagnosed with. it sounded great to him.
"i think it's the doctors," said gabe, glancing around to make sure there were no doctors in the vicinity. "either that or whatever book they read off of - i forget what it's called, but it's that book that's crazy." ebonie probably wouldn't get what he was talking about. sometimes it was like that. i got rambly. |

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Gabe knew all about Ebonies habit of ‘reading’ in the lobby, so she wasn’t surprised one bit when he asked her the question about the saneness of the people at White Springs. She chuckled at the thought that he could never get away with her secret way of observing people. "I think," Ebonie started, "That the only person getting any crazier around here is you." She smiled cleverly at him. Then he mentioned his theory on the doctors and she nodded vigorously " I think it’s both. Mostly the doctors though. The doctors keep admitting people who seem pretty normal to me." She shrugged. Then he mentioned a book. Sometimes Gabe said things that didn’t make much sense to Ebonie, but she chose to participate in conversation with him nonetheless. It was fun and she cared about him a lot, him being one of her closest friends. She raised an eyebrow at him, "Book?" She asked him. Sometimes he’d respond to her questions of clarification and others he’d be so easily distracted by something else that even she would forget what they had been previously discussing.

"are you sure it's not you, ebonie?" he teased back, flicking her lightly on the shoulder.
a lot of the people in white springs were quite normal. gabe didn't really think sex addiction really was a thing, but hey - who was he to argue with the doctors? he'd have to go through what, ten years of schooling to get a freaking psychology degree to do any sort of arguing. and then ebonie questioned that book that the doctors seemed to get all their referral from and the book gabe wanted to edit. because seriously? every teenager had mood swings. maybe his and ebonie's were a little more pronounced than normal teenagers. it didn't mean that they had to get diagnosed with a mental disorder. and every young boy was hyperactive and all. but instead of getting an "oh, your boy is a little bit more jumpy than normal", he got a "oh, you have attention deficit disorder, here's your medicine, go have fun with it!" and a grin from his psychologists.
or at least that was how gabe would have liked it to go in his mind. "you know," said gabe, "that book ... um, i forget what it's called ... the dsmv index or whatever. index or book or something of about fifty million mental disorders?" he took another glance at the girl being checked in. she certainly looked normal enough. and then gabe remembered that mental disorders didn't have a poster child or something like that. "you know what i mean. hopefully." lol, either i worry about too short or too rambly. it's weird. |

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ebonie chuckled at Gabes faked surprised face. She knew he’d fine that funny. He leaned back, widened his eyes and blamed Ebonie on being the crazy one. She laughed aloud as well, "You’re probably right. It must be me." She shrugged and threw her hands up casually, like she should have come to that conclusion much sooner. Then he explained what book he meant, " Oh!" She started, "Yeah. That book does seem like a bit of a waste of time. Anything could be a mental disorder according to them. Even our eye colors." She nodded as she assessed what Gabe was saying. People weren’t getting crazier, disorders where just getting more attention and being made up left and right. Ebonie sighed, "Well, at least we all have each other. Met any of the new kids yet?" She asked

"i knew you'd come to your senses soon enough, eb," he said. he sighed contentedly, leaning back on the chair. most people wouldn't consider a mental hospital to be a place where they could be content, but at least it was peaceful. or gabe was just in a good mood and he'd been since he'd been here. or both. unfortunately, he'd been stuck in this cycle for a year and knew that soon enough, his brain would give him a slap in the face and become depressed.
he tried not to think about that and agreed with ebonie's statement with a nod. some things they called "mental disorders" were completely ridiculous. most people who were diagnosed with adhd didn't even have adhd, for one. beside gabe, ebonie sighed and asked if he'd met any of the new kids yet. "haven't had time," said gabe with a shrug. "and you know, lots of people in here aren't as weirdly happy as we are." he grinned. most people were in here because of some kind of problem related to depression, even gabe. the bipolar in him, especially the depression part, wasn't noticed by most people unless you knew him, because he just covered it up with a big grin and jokes. - - - - - |

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Ebonie shrugged at his comment about coming to her senses, rekindling the smile on her face. She was happy to have Gabe as a friend, she wasn't really as close to anyone else and he had a way of making sure she stayed within a positive bi-polar trigger rather than a negative one. They had fun terrorizing the place together with positivism. "I accept my problems" She said, keeping a grin on her face. It was true that no one in the whole place was as weirdly happy as the two of them, which sometimes irritated Ebonie. She wished people would just lighten up and realize that they weren't in that big of trouble. ""Next thing you know our doctors will be putting us in the 'too happy' ward, and add that to their book of disorders.
