I break habits Just to fall in love But I do it On designer drugs The sun was setting finally at White Springs. Theo had been taking a short break from his rounds to take his dog outside to use the bathroom and a bit of exercise. Link had been with him half the day, but even then. Being outside was necessary for the dog. Theo knew that, and opted to take him out before starting his nightly rounds. The rhythmic panting of his dog distracted his thoughts for a bit. Reaching down to absently stroke the dog on the head, which immediately stopped due to his training. Theo glanced down, and Link sat down, staring up for more attention. The orderly laughed a bit and crouched down. Wrapping his arms around the dog and burying his face into the long golden coat of his retriever. Link responded by thumping his tail on the ground even harder and faster than before.
If anything Theo enjoyed the most, it was spending time with Link. Link attempted to lick his face when he pulled away, his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth as Theo came back into standing position. He had a smile on his face before he got an idea, suddenly taking off down the path at a light jog. Towards the doors of White Springs. Link waited a few moments before bounding after Theo, causing Theo to turn around and crouch down again. Opening his arms that Link happily ran right back into. Theo laughed out loud, as he pat the dog happily, leaning back to stroke the dog's face. "That's a good boy. Ready to help me start my rounds?" Link's tail just wagged as he stared at Theo.
Theo sighed slightly as he stood back upright. Leading Link back in through the doors of White Springs, he picked up a clipboard from the desk. It was a schedule of the rooms he'd visit tonight. He smiled as he looked at it, already having the medications tucked away in a side pouch he'd been wearing. Probably the only organized thing about him. The first name on the list was a girl named Melissa. Theo's smile remained in place as he began dancing down the hallway. Link panting and keeping up with Theo's bright and slightly quick pace. Straight to the girl's dorms where he finally paused, at a door, checking to make sure it was the right one before knocking on the door with a smirk. "Housekeeping!" It was clearly a joke, and he hoped whoever this Melissa was, would have a sense of humor.

Melissa Clark was not a huge fan of the fact that rounds were conducted. She felt as though they invaded on her schedule, even though in reality by this point it had become more a part of her routine. She wasn't sure about why it was that she even needed medication, but even she knew that it was necessary. Melissa knew that she needed beta blockers to keep her calm, especially considering that she was victim to uncontrollable bursts of rage and fury that couldn't be controlled. So any doubts or thoughts she had about being given medication were pretty much moot. She knew all the reasons, she just wished she didn't have those reasons. Still she supposed that that was why she was here, cooped up in her room patiently waiting for the next orderly to hand her her little paper cup and a slightly larger, though not by much, cup of water.
Melissa had been perching on the side of her bed, fiddling with an old Rubik's cube. The coloured stickers were fading, and some were peeling, but it was something that she had had for years. It was the first thing she had taken when she had arrived at White Springs, and since then she hadn't been able to cope without it being in her room. It was a strange constant in her life that she relied on to be there while the faces around her changed. People came and went at an alarming rate, and Melissa was comforted by the fact that she had one thing that remained solitary in her life. The springs and axles within the cube wheezed and clicked with age, exhausted from the countless turns, twists and swivels. She knew how to solve it after using one of the library's computers to print out a guide that now remained stuck beside her bed should she ever need to glance over it.
She was jolted away from the soothing clickity clack of turning sides and colours by the knock on the door and the cheerful chirp that came through the heavy wood. Gripping the half solved cube in her hand, she placed it down on her pillow and stood up, turning the light on in the same quick gesture. She hadn't realised when it had gotten dark, and therefore hadn't realised how long she had been sitting in a dark little room on her own. She gripped the door handle and twisted it, pulling the portal open and smiling at the orderly on the other side of the door. She leaned against it for a moment before speaking. "I was wondering when you would arrive, it's very messy in here," Melissa was joking of course, her room was somewhat barren. A lot of the things that she had wanted to keep or the stuff she had taken had been taken away from her. Mostly because the last episode she had she had thrown half of those things through windows. "Come in. What am I in for tonight?" She asked, stepping back into her room and sitting back down on her bed. She didn't think her usual order had changed, though.

I break habits Just to fall in love But I do it On designer drugs The door opened and a shorter blond female's face appeared in the doorway. Theo cracked a smile as she spoke, it seemed that indeed she did have a sense of humor. He glanced down at his chart again quickly before entering her room as she invited him in. It seemed she was one of the more cooperative patients too. Which was helpful in any case, but it was a plus she was already joking with him. Theo knew people could feel awkward around him because he treated everyone like they were friends. He didn't like judging people, or being judged himself. Laughing a bit again as he actually got a good look at how empty the room seemed to be. She was up front, very friendly. It made him wonder why she was this level.
Theo reached into the pouch he'd had strapped on his waist, pulling out Melissa's medication in a small cup. Then the cup of water with a small lid on it from the slot next to it. He organized it earlier based on who he'd visit first according to his chart. "Well it's certainly a disaster in here. How do you even walk through here? It'll take me forever to clean it." Theo sighed dramatically before laughing again, reaching to hand her the cup of water and her medications. "Looks like you've got the newbie giving you I guess the usual you do every night? You're Melissa, right? I swear if I have the wrong room... I need a map sometimes." Theo almost forgot Link was there, until he let out a happy bark.
Following Theo inside and standing so close to his leg it was actually a bit suffocating. But he smiled a bit as he looked down in the midst of his work. "Whoops. Well uh... regardless. I'm Theo, and this is Link. My little... Helper I guess.. Retrievers aren't all that little though..." Theo brought his gaze back up with another smile on his face. He knew he had to be other places, but he wanted to at least visit a bit. "Have a good day here... even though it's this place?" He figured he may as well ask. Find out if he could do anything for her before he left to finish his rounds.

Melissa was glad to see that the orderly that was visiting her tonight wasn't stuck up, nor wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible. Being a level three was hard, you were often cooped up in your room for hours on end, and you were only let out for an hour or so. Melissa personally thought she should have moved down to a level two, but it seemed like that wasn't the case. She hadn't gotten over her issues, and it didn't seem like she was going to be able to for a while now. She felt like she was in a prison, but the unnamed orderly that was in her doorway actually seemed pretty nice. That could have also have been Melissa's desperation for company that wasn't herself or the Rubik's cube on her pillow. She felt a little self conscious of her room as she invited the staff member in, feeling as though whenever he looked around her room he was judging her for not having many things of interest. Anything that she stole and managed to keep was held in a shoebox beneath her bed. A bed that felt too much like a prison cot.
Looking around her room, Melissa spotted no mess except a scrap of paper on the floor that had games of noughts and crosses scribbled across it that had been played with herself. Leaning down and picking it up and placing it down on the white bedside table, she shrugged her shoulders. "Oh you know, I always did enjoy trekking through my mountains of crap," she laughed lightly, a light tinkling of a noise that didn't last very long. She always managed to remind herself somehow about how terrible this place could be. It was so isolating. She put her hands on her knees and crossed her ankles, looking up at the orderly as he handed her the usual paper cup. Her bin always managed to fill up with these little things. She eyed it cautiously, and as she took the little water that seemed to appear out of nowhere, she swallowed the medicine in a single gulp. The taste was similar to plastic, and she wrinkled her nose as they clogged in her throat before sliding down. Her throat still felt awkward after that.
"Nah, I'm Melissa. I know how you feel. When I first moved here I always got lost. Thankfully there are helpful arrows and graffiti." She commented lightly, rubbing at the back of her head. Just as she was about to ask who the 'newbie' was, she spotted the dog a second before the bark. Her eyes lit up, she hadn't seen a dog in so long. As far as she knew pets weren't allowed in this place. In just a moment, Melissa slid down onto the floor at Theo's legs and was in the process of saying hello to his dog. She was on her knees, stroking the top of the head of this animal, and when she heard the name, if possible, she glowed a little. "Like from the Zelda games?" Melissa asked excitedly, looking up at the staff member from down on the floor. She seemed to have forgotten her manners for a minute or two. "Sorry, it's nice to meet you Theo. My day was okay I guess. Went out into the grounds for a whole hour, I've been in here since. It'd be nice to get something to occupy myself with." She gestured to the twisting puzzle nearby and smiled half heartedly.

I break habits Just to fall in love But I do it On designer drugs Theo smiled a bit when Melissa bent down to pet his dog. Link was ecstatic, being much like Theo himself his tag went off wagging wildly. Licking his chops a few times as he leaned toward the girl's hand as she pat the top of his head. Theo and Link both loved people, they were very compatible for this reason among many others. Smiling a bit wider when she asked about the games that his dog was named after. The hero particularly, because he'd swear by it that Link had saved his life. If he'd never needed to care for something, he probably wouldn't taken care of himself, and wouldn't be here either. "Of course. They're my favorite games and I swear that dog is just meant to be a hero."
Theo laughed a bit, but he was being completely honest about this too. He nodded a bit when she explained that she got lost frequently as a new person here as well. He wasn't sure what he could do for her in terms of occupation. "Sounds like you might need some hiking gear. I'll pick some up for you next time I'm in town." Theo's grin returned as it lit up his face a bit. He was feeling a bit all over the place, but not rushed in the least. He was sure that the kids who had meds could wait anyway, it wasn't like they enjoyed it much. "Hrm... occupy your time then? I'm not sure what I can really offer you. I know absolutely a journal and pencil are something I'd prefer. I love drawing though so.. that's a bit different. You like puzzles though? Maybe I can find you something similar to a rubix cube.. My grandmother had those 3-d puzzles that you had to put together that took forever for me because I could never figure them out." Theo shrugged a bit with another smile.
"Well, it's good you had a good day. I'll be sure to come visit you soon for sure, and don't worry I won't always have meds on me either. I'll have to bring Link too, he loves it when people give him attention. Well that and he likes you haha. Pretty much like me. " Theo nodded again, not really sure what to say or how to say it. This was his first set of rounds after all. He was hoping he was doing an okay job.

"I used to play the Zelda games all the time before I came here. I don't remember them much but they were so good," Melissa bobbed her head, paying more attention to Link than anything else in the room. Her fingers, long and slender tickled behind the ears of the dog and at the top of the head. She eventually let her hands move beneath the chin of the dog, where she stroked and petted too, before looking up at Theo from her place on the floor. She smiled a little at the memory of being able to play video games, they had been one of her favourite things. She had wanted nothing more than to be able to make, test and design video games before she was welcomed to White Springs. She looked a little sad as that thought went through her mind, and soon her attention went back to the dog to keep her mind off of the future she had given up on since being in White Springs. "Really?" Melissa asked as she was told that the dog was meant to be a hero. She wiggled her nose and cooed at the furry creature in her room. It had been a long, long time since she had seen a dog and she thought she was understandably excited.
"Oh, thank you. I could really do with some hiking gear. It's a wonder how I've been getting by for so long without it," Melissa shook her pale haired head. She was clearly joking, and soon got up to her feet. She brushed her knees off, as if she had landed in a pile of dust and was covered from head to toe in the stuff. Of course she wasn't but she wanted to be sure. Melissa smiled at the orderly, stepping back as she noted she was closer to Theo than what was probably appropriate. She took a step or two back into her room, retreating back to her bed with an apologetic smile. The long haired man spoke and she looked up from her knees to his eyes. She looked excited for a moment, before letting it slide off of her face. "As nice as that would be, I don't know if I'd be allowed to keep it." A gentle bounce of her shoulders. "I think I know what you're talking about though, I tried one of those when I was younger. I think I ate a few of the pieces.." Melissa cleared her throat and adjusted herself a little. She was feeling a little strange at how easy it was for her to open up so quickly. It was a dangerous habit of hers, especially in a place like White Springs.
Melissa's eyes lit up at the thought of Theo's visits becoming regular. "Really?" She asked, enthusiastically. She didn't get visitors. Her dad was out in London, and she was the sort of girl that had to watch all of the other patients getting visited by their family. Sometimes if she stood around enough, someone would spot her and ask her if she was okay, or if she was waiting for someone. Sometimes they'd invite her to talk to them while they waited. That was the closest she got to a visitor, so the thought of someone actually coming to see her had her almost as happy as Link had been. "Did you.. Did you have a good day?" Melissa asked, smiling warmly. Her mood was greatly improved now that she knew that there were good things on her horizon.
